SEETHER
NOKIA
THEATER, NYC
MAY 14, 2008

I was a little
disappointed with the opening band Flyleaf, especially
with singer Lacey Mosley. I was surprised to find
her vocals wavering. From the moment I heard Flyleaf on
the radio, I was a fan and was looking forward to catching them
live. In all fairness, I caught the tail end of the show so
maybe Mosley was tired, as her voice kept giving out.
Seether,
however, put on a solid performance. Back in 2002, I remember
them as being a hard rock band that could rock your face
off. This time around, with their new album Finding Beauty in
Negative Spaces, it seems they’ve taken a more melodic side
to rock. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying this as if it was a
bad thing. It seems frontman, Shaun Morgan, has
matured in a way that took his music to another level. Rehab did
not hurt his creativity at all.
The sold out show
consisted of a diverse crowd that could not get enough as
Seether rocked. Playing hits like, “Fake it,” “Remedy,”
“Rise Above This,” and “Fine Again,” they never disappointed
even while doing their hit “Broken” sans Amy Lee.
They’re the type of band that doesn’t need gimmicks or
distractions, such as the 2 TV screens behind them with obscure
film footage. Their music was more than enough to entertain.
My only
complaint…being a tease. They did an encore without ever leaving
the stage, weird. When they did finally leave, the lights were
still off and the video screen kept showing the obscure
images. This went on for a few minutes, making us think they
would come back. Alas, the lights came on and no Seether,
no encore…so wrong, such a tease!
